TRANSITIONS

The last decade at client PSA BDP International, has been a fulfilling journey. Along with making numerous acquaintances, I collaborated with my teams on over 50 significant projects that were successfully completed.

Apart from the regular projects that involved integrating our systems with customer and vendor SAP and Oracle ERP systems, the past ten years have been enriching  due to the opportunities that allowed me to contribute beyond my defined job parameters.

These opportunities included:

    • Acting as both Project Manager and Systems Architect as we deployed our first software robotics application development and deployment.

    • Deployed our first Alexa application.

    • Successfully managed the ransomware attack response team.

    • Identified and escalated issues in a critical system numbering scheme and prevented a 2024 New Year's Day crisis.

    • Assisted in planning the ERP transition.

I am proud to have made a positive impact on the PSA BDP Project Management Office (PMO) during my tenure.

    • By interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring most of the new project managers, I leave the organization with better-qualified and PMP certified professional project managers who each bring more than ten years of experience with at least three prior companies to PSA BDP.

    • During my initial eight years with the PMO, I worked to revise and extend our policy, operations, and procedural manuals. In the last two years, I intentionally reduced my work on these documents and successfully encouraged my team members to lead the department's evolution.

While PSA BDP was home for a decade, everything has its time, and on January 5th, 2024, I tendered my resignation notice effective February 5th, 2024.

As of now,

    • Most of my time now is devoted to serving as the CEO, CIO, and Investments Officer for RCG's "Family Office."

    • I am also mentoring entrepreneurs and small business owners, volunteering as a "Mentor" through the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE).

Since 1964, SCORE has helped more than 11million entrepreneurs start, grow or successfully exit a business.

SCORE's 10,000 volunteers provide free, expert mentoring, resources and education in all 50 U.S. states and territories.

SCORE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Thanks to this generous support from the SBA and the selfless contributions of our more than 10,000 dedicated volunteers,
we can deliver most of our offerings at no cost.

PROJECT CONSULTING

Our support of BDP International is now in its ninth year!

  • 2022 included the management of 22 teams located around the globe who documented every aspect of our financial systems in anticipation of implementing a new financial platform.

  • We started our implementation of Jira for Project Management to supplement Microsoft Project, CA PPM, and of course, Excel.

  • We migrated over 100 servers to new platforms with upgraded functionality and security.

  • We continued to deliver projects serving major clients worldwide based on International Logistics Best Practices, using a “fusion” of both Waterfall and Agile practices.

  • As always, SAP integration projects were prominent in our activities, completing projects in support of several world-class chemical companies.

THE STEM STUDENT SURVIVAL GUIDE

Between 40 and 60 per cent of Collegiate STEM students "fail out" of their major.  Most who do graduate have their scholarships and aid revoked, and pay five or six years of tuition.   After seven years of research, we have published "The STEM Student Survival Guide," available at
STEM Student Survival .com (now on sale!).  This book provides STEM students with the tools to recover from the inevitable unfair challenges that derail most STEM students.  The book explains actions to choose the right college, then successfully study, schedule courses, and graduate with sanity and finances intact.  Don't let your kid go to college until you BOTH read this book!

PROJECT CONSULTING

Our support of BDP International is now beginning its fourth year!  We managed the development and the delivery of more than a dozen projects based on International Logistics Best Practices, using a “fusion” of both Waterfall and Agile practices.  The projects managed included teams from the US, Canada, Belgium, India, and four far-East nations.  SAP integration projects were completed for a half-dozen BDP clients as the company continued their successful 3PL and 4PL logistics services to world-class customers worldwide.  We initiated projects in support of three world-class chemical companies.

PROPERTY TAX APPEALS

We wound down our investment in The Franklin Group.  From 2016 through 2017, we enabled the client law firm to serve people who own more than 65 million dollars of residential properties.  However, the ever increasing marketing costs made it impractical to scale the business as orignally planned.  We appreciate the services of the entire Franklin team and wish them well in their future adventures.

Looking Back at 2016 and Forward to 2017

We continued our support of Rappaport & Rappaport, PC, through our investment in The Franklin Group. RCG Update for 2011  - Taking "Pride in the Portfolio"
                                                                  & finally accepting new clients!

A message from RCG Principal Consultant Leon Roomberg:

It has been a fulfilling four years serving ALC first as a consultant through MicroData Systems (MDS), then as ALC's executive in charge of technology projects.  During this time I worked with our CFO to initiate, fund, and manage 26 projects with total expenditures of just under $6,000,000.

Supported by a wonderful team of professionals who demonstrated both competence and dedication, we completed 25 of those projects on time, within budget, and according to specifications.  That amounts to a 96% success rate.  Even more impressive is that as the one cancelled project was for a small amount of money, that 99.2% of project funds were determined to be successfully managed.

I could not have asked for a better team and would welcome future opportunities to work with them again.   Including infrastructure, database, and application development, the projects touched on almost every area of business technology.  Click
here for descriptions of each of those completed projects.

And now?  My immediate focus is on advising MDS team members on projects underway at MDS clients in Northern New Jersey and New York City.  At the same time, I am open to evaluate new medium and longer term project and technology management opportunities, but only in Southern New Jersey or Center City Philadelphia.  In addition, my volunteer and academic interests limit opportunities to those requiring 40% or less of overnight travel.

Services can be provided as an employee, consultant, or on a corp-to-corp basis.  RCG has operated as a corporation since 1991.  Follow me on LinkedIn to review outstanding references.  My resume can be found under my portrait at the right.

Feel free to call me at 609.238.4625 to discuss your project and technology management requirements!

RCG Update for 2010

In my role as RCG Principal, I continue my service to ALC and sister companies as their CIO.  As of this writing, the ALC Information Technology team continues upgrading ALC's communications, applications, and reporting infrastructure.  The bottom line results after implementing VOIP telephony and new versions of Oracle and IBM Domino Communication Services have been the achievement of record levels of service quality and efficiency.  The focus in the coming year will be the continued automation of production systems.  The DataCentrix Service Bureau team continues to expand, boasting new clients, new services, and four quarters of growth.  Customer Acquisition Profiling and Modeling based on Marketing Database Systems continue to be growth areas.  The Empathy Lab support team has replaced and/or upgraded key network, server, and application infrastructure while meeting service level goals of minimizing downtime during upgrades.  This has been a great year despite the challenges of the overall economy.    More information at www.alc.com

WRA Update for 2010 - Leon Roomberg Reelected

After three years of serving in various capacities including Secretary, Membership Chair, Membership Support, Crab Night Chair, Information Technology Support, and Marketing Chair, I will continue my service for another three-year term to the Woodcrest Recreation Association (WRA).   Goals for the coming year include setting policy on "Well Swimming," expanding last year's successful Direct Marketing program, controlling overhead costs, and continued service to the communications and membership committees.  Of the thirteen  not-for-profit swim, athletic, and social clubs in Cherry Hill, the WRA is the largest, with more than 1,400 members.  The WRA offers swim, dive, and tennis lessons.  Athletic teams for children include the WRA's 100 member swim & dive team.  Teen and adult leagues include two volley ball teams, basketball team, and competitive tennis.  Social events are held throughout the summer, and the WRA boasts the most open pool time of any South Jersey club. RCG Update for September, 2009

In my role as RCG Principal, I have accepted an expanded role at ALC.  While still leading the Information System Groups responsible for direct marketing systems development, operations, and support, I now also lead the DataCentrix Service Bureau Unit of ALC.  In the months to come, ALC & ALC/DataCentrix customers will benefit from an increasingly database-focused set of data processing tools and online analytical capabilities.  The breadth and depth of services should improve as should processing response times.  Customer will also benefit as ITG and Data Centrix staffs are cross-trained  and work together in the development of newer products.    Commenting on the changes, Leon observed, "We have gathered the critical mass of highly skilled individuals necessary to give our clients tools that increase their profitability while controlling customer acquisition costs.  These tools translate our vision into a series of services that cut the cost and times involved in developing marketing insights and converting those insights into customer acquisition actions."

"Our mission is to build on the values and competencies of other industry leaders who have devoted their careers to defining our goals and the metrics used to judge our progress toward those goals.  Inside the company, Donn Rappaport, Susan Rappaport, Peter DeRosa, Britt Vatne, Mary Anne Buoncristiano, Lori Magill Cook, Laurie Cole, and Fran Green have all contributed to meetings that resulted in refining our vision."

"Outside of the company, I am thankful to those that mentored my experiences in this industry.  They provided me with a toolset that is visionary, practical, and ethical.  I take the words and stories told to me by industry leaders like Bill Korn, Lou Krassen, Gary Kinzel, and Beryl Wolk, and repeat them endlessly to the team to help inspire and guide us."

2007 : Leon Roomberg joined ALC
