After graduating from Lansdowne-Aldan High School, I continued on with my education and graduated from Bob Jones University with a BS Degree in Education and from Central Michigan University with an MA Degree in Recreational Administration. My teaching career began in Neptune, New Jersey, as an elementary art teacher, and next in Pennsylvania where I was a high school art teacher. We then moved to Michigan where I taught middle school language arts. I also coached middle school track and basketball, and high school girls’ basketball. I spent the last 16 years as an assistant men’s basketball coach and head men’s basketball coach and athletic director at three NAIA and NCCAA colleges in Michigan.

I met my wife Barbara in Ocean Grove, NJ, where we were both working during the summer months. We married in 1960 and had four children; Susan, is a math and physics teacher; Timothy, works for the Transportation Security Administration; Jennifer, is a language arts and music teacher; and Karen, is a Physician Assistant. We have 6 grandsons and one granddaughter—ages 9 through 16 years old. We do not get to see them as often as we would like since they live in Michigan and northern Florida.

After retiring from teaching and coaching, I stayed involved in sports by officiating basketball and softball games. My wife, Barb, continued to work as an elementary principal. When she decided to retire, we moved from Michigan to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and leave the snow behind, not knowing we would be trading snow for hurricanes. We have been very fortunate not to have had major hurricane damage.

We are finding that in our retirement we are just as busy as ever. Both of us spend many hours working at our church in various capacities. Barb is on two private school boards, and I am still involved in officiating basketball. My leisure time is spent tinkering on my ‘56 Ford F100 pick-up truck and attending car shows. We look forward to more leisurely days of relaxing and enjoying the Florida sunshine.
