John enlisted in the Marines after graduation from Lansdowne High School where he played football for the Marine Corp. He was chosen “Marine of the Year”. After his discharge from the marines, John went to the University of Miami where he again played football as a lineman. When he left college, he entered the fine paper industry where he continues to be to this day! Even though he is semi-retired, he holds two top positions in the printing paper field. He is “Executive Sales Manager of North America” for the Dalum Papir Mill of Odense, Denmark (the only paper mill that manufactures 100% recycled paper) and he is Vice-President of Sales of Gould Paper Corp. whose main office is in New York City. Many years ago when he was in a Baltimore restaurant having lunch with a customer, he met his future wife Joan who was also there having lunch with friends. They fell in love and John moved from his beloved Philadelphia to Joan’s hometown of Baltimore. He still lives in Perry Hall, which is a suburb of Baltimore, MD. He and his wife also have a home in St. Augustine, Florida on the ocean where they spend more than half their time. Both John and Joan love to take walks on the beach, swim the ocean, sit close to the water’s edge, travel, watch old movies, read biographies, visit with friends and just hang out together. John is a cancer survivor…having had two serious bouts with cancer in 1990 and 1996. They have five children, ten grandchildren (who call him Pop-Pop) and 2 great-grandchildren.
