From: Bob Houck Waverly - Thanks for forwarding this. What a personable and funloving classmate Ginnie Johnson was! My favorite Ginnie story took place late one Saturday afternoon. Unannounced, she showed up at my front door and insisted that I was to dress up as a girl and and accompany her to an all female costume party (Halloween?) to be held at Lynn Blake's house that evening. She had brought one of her mother's party dresses (a flapper number with sequins and beads), a face mask, makeup, jewelry, a wig, a bra, stockings and shoes (which somehow fit my size 11 feet). She said that she would pass me off as a friend from out of town, and already had a name and "story" made up for me to use. Her persuasiveness and my willingness to be outrageous carried the day. So I shaved my face and legs, she helped me to get my act together and off we went. At six feet, I towered over all of the other guests, who regarded me with some suspicion. As I recall, they were nevertheless friendly and tried to make this tall, gawky stranger feel welcome in their midst. I tried to say as little as possible (then, as now a personal challenge!) and remember that we were able to carry of the masquerade for perhaps 20 minutes or so. Finally, someone (it may have been Jared) caught on and exposed me for the fox in the henhouse that I was. We all had a good laugh and I departed early. It seemed like it took me forever to grow back my leg hair! What a hoot! All the best, Bob |
