 P. Alan Rowland

I left LAHS in my junior year and spent five years in the US Air Force. I have been stationed in Loring AFB, Caribou, ME; Anderson AFB, Guam; Japan; Hong Kong; Korea; the Philippines; and Okinawa. My specialty was Airborne Communications, but I spent most of my time participating in sports, which included the 8th AF judo team and inter-service football and baseball.

After the service I went to Temple University and then to Eckels College of Mortuary Science. I spent seven years working for Wildey Funeral Home in Philadelphia. I also did trade embalming for more than a dozen funeral homes in the Philadelphia area, including Baldi, Kessler-Cardoza, Nulty, Nugent, Hollen, Baj, Joseph Quinn, Sekula, Mannal, Altworth, Tomlinson, Stiles, Wackerman, and Mann.

In 1968 I went to work for Wyeth Labs calling on doctors and hospitals. In 1970 I went to work for Sherwood Medical (part of Brunswick Corporation) in their Medical Products Division. I was recognized as ‘Salesman of the Year’ in 1972, 1981 and 1987. Later I was made Eastern Regional Manager for Sherwood’s Lancer Laboratory Division.

In the 80’s, Sherwood Medical was sold to American Home Products (Wyeth) and I was the Marketing and Sales Specialist covering Eastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey and Delaware. In 1998, after 29 years with Sherwood, I was offered the opportunity to retire with full benefits from Wyeth. I went back to work in the funeral business, working for the Mann Funeral Home in Philadelphia.

In 1999, we sold our home in Medford, NJ, and moved to Beaufort, SC. After playing a lot of golf, and belonging to SC National Golf Club and The Legends of Parris Island, I went to work for the Copeland Funeral Home, and am still working there. I have been married to Dorothy Ann for 32 years, and I had three sons from my first marriage: Tom died in August of 2004 at the age of 43. David lives in Lima, OH, and has twin daughters. Scott lives in the Torresdale section of Philadelphia and has two daughters.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the 50th reunion!
