Dave Waters, Sonia Condax, Thomas Jerome,
John Chism, and Judy Wheeler.

As far as we know, Dave (Windy) Waters is the only deceased member of the class of 1956 who was from Aldan. We Aldanites felt it was especially important to write a short biography in memory of him. Submitted by Shirley Muller Pruette

David (Windy) Waters

Dave and his brother, Dale, lived at 106 Merion Avenue, right next to the hoagie shop (later used as the Aldan police station from the late 1960’s to 1978) on Woodlawn Avenue. Most of us who grew up in Aldan will probably remember the farm that Dave's grandfather owned and worked located on Springfield Road, bordering Collingdale and Aldan and across from Little Flower Orphanage. The farm was later divided and sold and new homes built on part of the property, while Dave's uncle continued to operate a nursery business on several acres of the site.

Dave enjoyed sports and played basketball and baseball while in Aldan Junior High and Lansdowne-Aldan High School. He also was goalie for the Aldan Junior High All-Star soccer team, which went undefeated and un-scored upon until the last game against the Delaware state champions.

Following graduation from LAHS, Dave spent two years in the Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, OK. After his discharge, he worked for and retired from Philadelphia Electric Company. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Nobody remembers for sure how Dave got tagged with the nickname, Windy, but two possibilities have been suggested by a couple of Dave's Aldan buddies. Some think that Dave got the nickname from basketball coach, Bob Metzger, because he was so tall (at least for Aldan Junior High) and presumably his head was up in the atmosphere where the jet stream was a blowin'. The other possibility was that Windy was given to him by baseball coach, Bucky Forbes, because Dave had such a good "fast" ball that it sped by opposing batters just like the wind!

Dave and his wife, Nancy, lived in Exton until his death from lung cancer at the age of 59.
