Irene Wigington (Castella (Irene) Wigington Hill)

Following graduation from Lansdowne-Aldan High School, I was employed by State Farm Insurance Company, TV Guide, Mobil Oil Company and Ide Associates.

In 1962 I married Kenneth Hill, a Lower Merion High School and Temple University graduate.  We have one daughter, Kimberly, who lives in suburban Atlanta, GA.  Beginning in 1968 we became corporate gypsies for approximately 11 years.  We transferred to Cleveland, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, Piscataway, NJ, Detroit, MI, and ultimately relocated back to the Philadelphia area in 1979.

During my travels and transfers, I accumulated college credits at Brookdale College and Wayne State University.  Since relocating to my current home, in Wayne, PA, I acquired an Associate Arts degree at Delaware County Community College in 1981 and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at West Chester University in 1983.  Subsequently, I pursued a career in teaching.  I was a substitute teacher in the Radnor School District for 15 years and provided career counseling and job training at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia.

I am currently a member of The Links, Inc., a non-profit international women’s service organization and The League of Women’s Voters of Chester County.  In both organizations, I assisted in voter registration drives.  In addition, I did volunteer fundraising for The Links and United Negro College Fund.

Currently, I am living a busy and fulfilling retirement.  I am an avid bridge player, currently President of The Sayre Bridge Club, and I enjoy a round of golf with Ken when I am not playing bridge in a tournament.  We hope to be able to split our time between Wayne and Sarasota, FL, beginning in 2006.  Our future plans also include spending more time with family and traveling throughout the US and to other countries while continuing to play bridge and golf.
