At the end of the summer following graduation I, along with Dan Comby, John Foley and Ben Werntz, joined the Marine Corps. After boot camp at Parris Island and infantry training at Camp Lejeune, NC, our assignments took us in different directions. I went to parachute school at Lakehurst, NJ, partially in order to attend my future wife’s (Pat England, class of ’57) senior prom. Upon leaving the Marine Corps, I went to college—first at Susquehanna University, then to Drexel, and finally to the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where I received a Master’s Degree in Urban Affairs. My job history included working for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in Philadelphia, then on to positions in local government in Wilkes-Barre, PA; Hampton, VA; Sacramento, CA; and finally to Fresno, CA. I worked in the housing and community development field, most often holding the position of chief executive officer. I retired in 1998 and continue to live in Fresno. I can’t imagine enjoying retirement more. Pat and I regularly play golf and tennis, work out faithfully, and travel a lot. We have recently become members of a senior theatrical group. We sing and dance. Pat and I have been married 47 years and have three grown sons, a college professor, a doctor, and a sales manager who lives in New Zealand. Any further information you can extract from me at the reunion. |
