After graduation, I went to work for Otis Elevator Co. in Philly and started at Drexel in September as a night school student. It took me thirteen years to get my degree in Industrial Management. During that thirteen year period I had major eye surgery (retinal detachment—before lasers), worked for I-T-E Circuit Breaker Co. and Fleer Corp., met and married my wife Fran (a divorcee with two small girls) in1964. We had a son Mark in 1965. Mark was born with severe multiple handicaps. During his life time, he gave our family more joy and love than the four of us could give him, and we gave him plenty. Mark passed away in 1991

When our oldest daughter Cheryl married in 1979, Fran got “empty bedroom syndrome” and we took an exchange student from Japan. We enjoyed the experience so much that we continued to take students, and when daughter Linda married in 1985, we doubled up. From 1980 to 2003 we had 35 exchange students. We had students for as little as two months, and some as long as six years. When the NATO ships were coming into Philly we took sailors off the ships for dinner and sight seeing in the area. We found they loved to go to Lancaster County and see the Amish. Most of the students and the sailors keep in touch, and we have been to England, Scotland, France and Japan for visits and weddings.

Cheryl and her husband Pat have four sons, Pat Jr., 26; Daniel, 23; Nick, 20; and Mike, 19. Linda and her husband Mike have a boy and a girl, Mike, 16 and Jaclyn, 13. We have run to all their youth sports and high school games and are now running to Long Island since Cheryl's sons Nick and Mike play LaCrosse for Hofstra University.

I look forward to seeing everyone in September
