After high school, I entered the Navy and was trained to be a Hospital Corpsman. Upon discharge, I attended the Peirce Business School and took up computers. I worked for the Fidelity Bank before moving to Bethlehem, PA, to work for Bethlehem Steel. When I left the Fidelity Bank and went to Beth Steel in 1967, I went as an experienced operator on the RCA Spectra 45 computer. The steel company had just purchased one of these computers and had no one to operate it. The steel company got my name from one of the salesmen and contacted me. I stayed there until my layoff in mid-1983. During the time I worked at Bethlehem Steel, I also went to school, and studied for the Funeral Service. I should have done that a long time ago. As you may (or may not) remember my father was the rector of St. John’s Episcopal church in Lansdowne. While I enjoyed the public life, I couldn't picture myself writing sermons every week. However, I have always wanted to serve the public in some way. So I guess I could say that while my other jobs were good experience, they were not fulfilling. Being a funeral director fills that need for me. I got my license while still at Bethlehem Steel but didn't work at it for several years because most of the funeral establishments here had their staffs and didn't need anyone at the time. After being laid off at Beth Steel, I worked for DHL worldwide express for 17 years as a courier/guard, but maintained my Funeral Director's License. Upon retiring from DHL in 2003, I finally went into the funeral service full time in the Bethlehem area. I work for the Cantelmi Funeral Home in Fountain Hill. While Dino is the owner of the firm, I do whatever is needed of me from making arrangements to conducting the funerals and everything in between. One might say that I was at the wrong place at the wrong time until I retired, then I found myself at the right place at the right time. I am married for a second time and now have 5 children (one adopted) and 3 step-children. I also have 16 grandchildren. R. Neal Davis
